Our Vision

Our Mission

For more than 130 years, we have provided a voice for the community on local issues.

Our mission is to be a collective voice for residents in our community. To effectively liaise with both Hornsby and Hills Shire Councils as well as the New South Wales State Government and Federal Government. To lobby on behalf of the residents of Glenorie.

For the Glenorie Progress Association to be effective in being a collective voice and to drive an agenda which the community wants, we need our residents to join us.

There are significant changes on the horizon with regards to development and planning. We need your input. Membership is only $20 per annum.

Charter

  • People have a right to have a say in the development of their local area. All consultation should be thorough and genuine.

  • No government – National, State or Local – has the right to override the wishes of the local community about increased densities, changes of use, and removal of open space in their area, without full, proper and adequate consultation.

  • Infrastructure including road networks, transport, telecommunications, schools, shopping, electricity, solar, water supply /sewerage, waste & recycling and access to health facilities should be constructed concurrently with any planned development.

  • Glenorie/ Hillside and surrounds are known for their bushland. All development [urban, semi-rural, rural and bushland] must include:

  1. Preservation of rural lifestyle and rural businesses

  2. Variable use of land inclusive of rural use while ensuring proper protection and conservation of suburban bushland and wildlife corridor.

  3. Proper and genuine consultation with the residents

To work with the residents of Glenorie and its surrounding areas in the creation of a reasonably acceptable blueprint for the development of our area, and to work with our local Councils to ensure that this blueprint is reflected in the development plans created by those Councils over time.

Urban development in Sydney’s North and West is often led by developers without consultation with the local population. Too often the focus is on the individual development and its financial return to the developer, without consideration of how it will fit into and be received by the local community. It is common for no or little thought to be given to the ability of the existing infrastructure to support the population that the development will bring. Planning for the future is being imposed in an ad hoc manner led by developers with only the bottom line in mind.

On behalf of our community, the GPA should advocate that all infrastructure is in place prior to or in conjunction with the development of any area. In particular, the GPA believes that the rural and semi-rural character of Glenorie and surrounding areas does not lend itself to significant urban development.

The Glenorie community should have input into State government and local Council planning proposals. To be an effective lobbyist, the GPA needs hundreds of members and those members, in turn and through the GPA should be the conduit for open lines of communication with The Hills Shire Council and Hornsby Council.

GPA and its members need to be in close contact with Council’ planning and administrative staff so that Glenorie residents are fully aware of all:

  • Zoning change proposals

  • Development applications

  • Intended future changes which could detract from the rural/semi-rural character of our area.
